From 8 to 11 June 2026, I participated in the inaugural HKU–MIT Summer Institute in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Themed AI for Cities, the programme brought together artificial intelligence, spatial data, and urban research through lectures, field visits, and group projects.
During the programme, we visited Haizhu Lake in Guangzhou. Our group project, Shade Equity under Urban Heat: Identifying Street-Level Shade Gaps around Haizhu Lake, explored gaps in street-level shade and questions of shade equity around the lake. Together with Yingli and Renjie, I worked on the project and presented our work, receiving constructive suggestions and encouraging feedback from the experts in attendance.
Our team, including Renjie, Zhaohe, Tianyu, Muqin, Yingli, Lihong, and me, received a third prize.
My thanks to Professor Jun Ma for his “passionate” guidance, to Xinyi and Chen for their thoughtful care and support, and to Yingli and Renjie for such an enjoyable collaboration. I had never imagined that just a few days could be so fulfilling.
